ENEMYMAKER888
- PROMO - 2002
THE
FOUR TRACKS ON ENEMYMAKER888'S PROMO CD ARE UNASHAMEED HEAVY METAL
AND THAT'S FINE BY ME. FEATURING SOME OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE RIFFS
I HAVE HEARD IN A LONG TIME AND ALL ROUND SOLID PERFORMANCES, THIS
IS PROMISING STUFF INDEED. ON THIS EVIDENCE THESE FOUR GUYS FROM
HARROGATE MAY WELL BE THE BEST-UNSIGNED METAL BAND IN THE U.K. AT
THE MOMENT.
TAKE
THE RIFF-HEAVY METAL OF BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ADD THE SORT OF VOCAL
MELODIES USED ON EARLY ALICE IN CHAINS TRACKS LIKE "WE DIE
YOUNG", MIX IN A DISTINCLY BRITISH FLAVOUR TO THW WHOLE THING
AND YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING CLOSE TO THE SOUND OF ENEMYMAKER888. THESE
ARE EARLY DAYS AND I FOR ONE CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH AS THEY DICOVER
THAT FINAL PIECE TO THE PUZZLE.
ENEMYMAKER

RAINMAKER888
- PROMO 1999 (4/5)
RAINMAKER888 Feature a line-up whose members have served their
time in everyone from Lionsheart to
Cradle of
Filth, so make of that what you will! Sound wise they churn out
some great Heavy Metal. Imagine, if you can, a band that takes
the
power of Sabbath, the vocals of Ozzy and the groove of Cathedral
on speed and what you get is RAINMAKER888.

RAINMAKER888
- PROMO 1999 (independent)
This cassette has seen some serious misadventures since coming
into my possession. The details of which shall remain secret.
Rainmaker888
is a new band from the United Kingdom featuring Zac Bajjon (ex
Lionsheart) on lead vocals and bass, Rishi Mehta (ex
Cradle of Filth): guitar, Ryk Swillo: guitar, Mark Cooper on drums
and Benjamin Ryan (ex Cradle of Filth, ex Blood Divine) on
keyboards.
Rainmaker888 create a brand of metal in the vain of Lefay and Nevermore.
In their own words Rainmaker888 " combines powerful riffs and driving
rhythms which contrast with instant melodies, creating their own
epic brand of dark avante-garde metal".
That about sums them up. The demo is only four songs, two of which
are rough eight track mixes. The opening track is "Killing Words".
This is a ripper of a track with lots of double bass drums along
with keyboards to add a very cool counterpoint. "Forgive Me" is
even heavier and except for Bajjon's growling vocals this song,
while not sounding like Nevermore, would not be out of place on
one of their discs. Up next are the two eight track roughs. Outside
of the production obviously being of demo quality these two songs
are great!
"The Rainmaker" is probably my favourite song. On this track they
go for a more straight ahead metal assault with lots of guitar and
double bass. The demo closes out with "Magick Rooms". This is a
very up tempo track that reminds me of Lefay with it's vocals and
guitar attack.
Rainmaker888 are not exactly newcomers to the metal scene. Zac Bajjon
has been around for years so he knows what it takes to make a great
metal disc.
The guitar core of Mehta and Swillo create riff laden tracks which
are augmented by the heavy bottom of Cooper and Bajjon. Zac Bajjon
is a great vocalist who's voice fits well with the music. The production
of the demo is not the greatest but that is expected, especially
when two tracks are eight track roughs.
Venom have taken Rainmaker888 on tour with them, so if Zac and the
boys are good enough for Cronos And mantas they are good enough
for me.

Rainmaker888
u.k. - promotape
A new four piece unit out of England that's already been very active
for being still an unsigned band, but the reason for their
success
so far has been their frontman and bass player Zac Bajjon a musician
with a highly interesting past, When he left them he joined
Lionsheart along with a lot
of production work for other bands and labels in the U.K.
Rainmaker888 have so far opened up for Zakk Wylde, YDI, Leadfoot
and Venom to name just a few and soon they will support Alabama
Thunder Pussy, with so much playing and a good response an album
would not be to far away. this promo is suprisingly dynamic.
Spinning through the songs on this tape it sounds like the band
worked out the production really well it's very doomladen and very
powerful. Musically the band combine the early british 80s metal
with Candlemass, King Diamond, Skyclad and early Judas Priest.
This is doom laden power metal how it is supposed to sound, Rainmaker888
have made a demo that is certainly one of the best for this year
at least on my list.

OF LIVE @ BLOODSTOCK FESTIVAL U.K. AUGUGST 2002
ENEMYMAKER888
STARTED THEIR SET PLAYING TO JUST ME AND THE SOUND GUY, WHICH
DID'NT HELP THE ATMOSPHERE ANY. STILL, IT DID'NT DETRACT FROM
THE HUGE RIFFS THAT THEY SEEM TO BE ABLE TO SUMMON UP AT WILL.
THANKFULLY,
THE CROWD GREW STEADILY AS THE SET PROGRESSED AND BY THE TIME
THEY CLOSED WITH A RIPPING VERSION OF THIN LIZZY'S "EMERALD"
THE ROOM WAS PLEASANTLY FULL.
ENEMYMAKER'S
SOUND IS TRADITIONAL ENOUGH FOR OLD METAL PURISTS BUT PACKED WITH
ENOUGH MONSTER RIFFS TO SATISFY THE YOUNGSTERS, WEANED ON THE
LIKES OF MACHINE HEAD.
POTENTIALLY,
IT COULD BE A VERY SUCCESSFUL COMBINATION. WITH SONGS LIKE "RAINMAKER"
AND "KILLING WORDS" AND A FRONTMAN LIKE ZAC, WHO STALKS
THE STAGE LIKE CRONOS IN HIS PRIME, THEY CERTAINLY HAVE SOME IMPRESSIVE
WEAPONARY IN THEIR ARSENAL.
SPEAKING
OF ZAC, THE BASSIST/ VOCALIST TOOK A NASTY TUMBLE EARLY ON BUT
STILL PLAYED ON LIKE A METAL TROOPER AND FINISHED THE SET BEFORE
BEING WHISKED AWAY TO THE LOCAL A&E. HOPEFULLY HE'LL SOON
BE BACK FIGHTING FIT.

It's all Ozzy's fault, of course. The tincture and all pervasive
influence of the great man manifests itself wherever you look, smell
and feel tonight. The sold out place is awash with Ozzy acolytes,
the p.a. system blasts out Sabbath songs inbetween bands, and openers
Rainmaker888 even choose to close their impressively feisty 45 minute
set with "A National Acrobat" which goes down exceptionally well
with the gathered throng.
A focused amalgam of early 80's style Brit metal, lashed vociferously
to a feral membrane of Cathedral inspired doom, Rainmaker888 have
to work hard to win audience approval. That they succeed say's much
about their determination and talent.
Watch out for this lot, and if you enjoy dirty, unwashed British
riffage, then they'll be right up your coalshed. A magnificently
old-fashioned night of glorious heavy metal.

Review
of live @ Highbury Garage supporting Black Label Society 01/Aug/00
There is something classically British about the good, honest, balls-to-the-wall
metal Rainmaker888 knock out. Like vintage Machine Head crossed
with "Blind"- era C.O.C, mixed in with some serious doom and a dollop
of n.w.o.b.h.m. heroics, this is a highly successful (re-)anglicization
of high-energy power groove. Black Sabbath would go without saying,
were it not for the hefty cover of "A National Acrobat". A name
to watch very closely as they start payin' the live dues.
